24K magic in the aiiiiiiir

Helurrr beautiful people. I hope that you sang the title of this post in true Bruno style, I know I did! Although in this instance, the 24K was on my face – as skincare nogal.

If you’ve seen viral trends last year, you would have noticed alot of gold infused skincare videos – there were those gold sheets that were applied to your face with some kind of oil that stuck out for me. I, however am poor so I did not try any of that – I don’t even own 9K gold jewelry lol. ANYHOO, fast forward a year and some change, and I’ve finally got my human hooked on a skincare regime. Don’t get me wrong, he doesn’t have a 150 step routine or anything, but he has the basics down – cleansing and exfoliating. I’m happy.

Aside from the fact that couple masking is an amazing way to spend quality time together, you’re taking care of your skin as well so it’s a win-win situation. He usually picks up a Skin Republic mask from Dischem and gets 3-4 uses out of them – he normally opts for the charcoal mask but this time picked up the 24K gold peel off mask. It retails for R66.95, which is pretty reasonable since you get so many uses out of it and it’s resealable. I decided to try it out myself and will share my thoughts after I discuss some benefits of 24K gold.

Benefits of gold for skincare:

  1. Reduces wrinkles, fine lines and spots.
  2. Stimulates the skin cells.
  3. Prevents premature aging of the skin.
  4. Slows down collagen depletion.
  5. Treats sun damage and allergies.
  6. Anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory.
  7. Increases skin elasticity.

The Skin republic mask lists the following on their website :

  • Age-defying peel-off mask.
  • Smoothes away fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Fruit acids gently exfoliate for a brighter, more luminous complexion.

Application:

The mask is runny in texture, but dries down quite quickly so I would suggest using a brush to apply (to avoid messing up your fingers and to get an even application. I used my Real Techniques foundation brush – it works great for face masks! It has a fresh scent, which I liked, and it didn’t irritate or burn my skin once I applied it. With all peel-off masks, I made sure the outer edges were slightly thicker to allow me to peel it off in one go.

As I mentioned previously, it did dry quite fast – I would say around 15 minutes after application and obviously my face felt tight.

This is what the tube looks like, with a screw on cap to re-use.

The peel-off:

YOH! I can’t even stress this enough – DO NOT USE PEEL-OFF MASKS IF YOU’RE A HAIRY GIRL! You’d think I would’ve learnt my lesson having my face ripped off previously – literally Nicholas Cage in Face Off. I cried my eyes out trying to peel this mask off and it was so excruciating. Granted, my face was much smoother afterwards, but that’s probably because it ripped off the first 2 layers of my skin. I’m dramatic, I know, but it was really painful – I would not recommend.

I tried to zoom in so you could see the dead skin/hair/blackheads that were pulled out

My thoughts:

Since this is an anti-aging product, results are only visible with continued results and there is no way that I’m peeling off my face again. But, that is me. If you’re not a hairy girl, go for it. It is never too early to start using anti-aging products. Skin Republic have a great range and they’re available at most Dischems in S.A. They’re reasonably priced and there’s a variety to choose from – you will find one for your skin concern. As for me, I am going to stick to my L’oreal clay masks because they don’t hurt 🙂 – You can see a review I did here.

Just a gold bunny

Until next time

  1. Awesome post , love the pics. I am also having a bit of a Meh moment with masks. The Garnier 3 in 1 charcoal mask did not do the things it said it would.
Also, cannot wait for your review of the Huda palette

Thanks Jan! I think the only way we really find out what works for our skin concerns is by trying different products. I’m obviously not going to break the bank for a face mask lol
The huda palette is just too gorgeous honestly! I actually feel bad and don’t want to disturb it’s beauty lol

Let me know what you think!
