The Doc is in

Helurrr beautiful people and welcome to another skincare post! (I know, I’ve got more skincare posts than anything else but it’s something that we need to talk more about.)

I was sent some new skincare products to try out last month and I’m finally ready to tell you all about them. If you follow me on instagram, you would have seen a few posts about these products already – but let’s talk about my thoughts here.

Dr Dermal? What is it?

Dr Dermal is an award-winning range developed by a passionate team of skin care professionals. ~

It has been formulated by a dedicated team of dermatologists, plastic surgeons and an international award-winning chemist.  These niche products are designed to fulfill the needs of prematurely aging South Africans who are looking for cutting edge formulations that are competitively priced. ~ A2 Magazine

They are manufactured right here in sunny SA, and their offices are in Umhlanga, Durban. They DO NOT test on animals and are paraben free. I’ve shared my skincare journey with you and the last time you heard from me, I mentioned that I was simplifying my routine. It was the overuse of different products without having proper knowledge that got my skin so messed up in the first place, so naturally I am extremely cautious when trying anything new.

It was for this reason that I introduced these 2 products to my skin in a very careful manner. I started with very little product every other day and waited a week between using the 2 different products. Their website states that some of their products are highly active and are not suitable for sensitive skin – so please be careful. When introducing any product to your skincare routine, do so in a staggered approach so that you can build up your skin’s tolerance. You will have a lower chance of developing a reaction and even if you do, you would be able to isolate it and determine which product you are reacting to. I was sent 2 products and will be discussing them further down.

Their website has an amazing learning centre, which you can access here. They explain the different active ingredients and break down many skincare concerns.

MicroRetinol 5 Rich Repair

Retinol (also known as Vitamin A) stimulates the production of new skin cells. It can also help to fade dark spots resulting from photo-aging, hyperpigmentation, hormonal changes, and blemish scars.

This retinol cream is carefully formulated to provide controlled release of retinol into your skin, which ensures maximum skin renewal benefits whilst reducing the risk of irritation. With regular use it refines, repairs and revitalises the condition of your skin.

Key Benefits

  • Skin Renewal
  • Collagen production
  • Reduces appearance of pores / fine lines / wrinkles
  • Helps to control problem skin by unplugging pores, refining texture and increasing the overall health of each newly formed skin cell
  • Strengthens barrier

This cream comes in a bottle with a pump, so a pea sized amount is all you need. It is recommended after your nighttime routine after cleansing. If you aren’t using any retinol products, I would suggest using this product every 2-3 days, just to build up your skin’s tolerance. It is worth mentioning that I didn’t experience any discomfort whatsoever after applying it. I worked it into my skin with my finger tips (avoiding my eye area) and it was absorbed very nicely, leaving my skin with a matte finish. I didn’t feel the need to use a moisturiser afterwards but you can if you want to.

I have noticed an improvement in my skin texture and overall appearance since I’ve started using it. Like all skincare products, it does take time to see the best results so I’m confident that it will only improve.

Total Rejuvenation Plasma

This is a complete anti-ageing serum that contains a natural enzymatic complex, which works hard on deep, stubborn wrinkles to uncover healthy, glowing skin in a short period of time.

Key Benefits

  • Complete anti-aging serum
  • Primer effect
  • Light diffusing effect for fine lines and pores
  • Skin tightening effect
  • Muscle relaxing peptide activity

This is such a lightweight serum and is perfect for both morning and evening use – after cleansing and before moisturising. It has a dropper – which I absolutely love with serums because it makes dispensing and application so much easier!

I waited a week after I had started using the retinol cream, to try this bad boy out. Once again, I introduced it to my skin slowly – every 2nd day. I focused it under my eye (it’s great for dark circles as well as pores) and around my nose area. Whilst there hasn’t been a significant visible change in the appearance of my dark circles, I am certain that this will come with time. I have just increased the frequency of application and will definitely keep you updated! I can however attest to the fact that my under eye area feels a lot more moisturised and looks way better under makeup than it did before.
